The Lebanese Kataeb Party-also known as Phalanges Party-
was founded in 1936 and led by Sheik Pierre Gemayel now
available on DVD. It first started as a sports
organization before it became in 1937, a quasi-military
one. The Kataeb struggled and plaed a major role in the
Lebanses Independence war: During 1958.25 revolution, the
Kataeb offered support and backed-up Camille Chamoun.
And under Fouad Chehab’s presidency, the party formed a
triple alliance along with the NLP and the Nationalists.
As the 1975, the party entered the Lebanese Civil war,
enrolling in the Lebanese front that had the Christian
forces. It was then that the party’s role and the role
of its founder Sheikh Pierre Gemayel started to weaken,
eclipsed by the charisma of Sheikh Bachir Gemayel and
the birth of his “Lebanese Forces”. The party kept
losing its momentum and importance, especially after
Sheikh Pierre’s death. And although the party instated
the “Taef”and regardlessof Georges Saadeh’s efforts to
remedy to its weakness, the party suffers todayand
incomparable disunity, especially with Karim Bakradoni’s
takeover and the seclusion of Sheikh Amin Gemayel. |
تأسس حزب الكتائب اللبنانية عام 1936 بقيادة الشيخ بيار
جميل. وقد إنطلق الحزب في البداية كمنظمة رياضية قبل أن
يتحول في العام 1937 منظمة شبه عسكرية. خاض حزب الكتائب
معركة إستقلال لبنان وكان له دور بارز فيها. دعم حزب
الكتائب الرئيس كميل شمعون ووقف إلى جانبه خلال ثورة 1958.25.
وخلال عهد فؤاد شهاب شكل حزب الكتائب مع حزب الأحرار
والكتلة الوطنية الحلف الثلاثي. خاض حزب الكتائب الحرب
الأهلية في لبنان اعتباراً من العام 1975 وانخرط في الجبهة
اللبنانية التي ضمت القوى المسيحية. تراجع دور الحزب ودور
مؤسسه الشيخ بيار جميل مع بزوغ نجم الشيخ بشير الجميل
وتشكيلة القوات اللبنانية. واستمر حضور الحزب وانتشاره
بالتراجع خصوصاً بعد وفاة الشيخ بيار الجميل. رغم إنخراطه
في دولة الطائف، ورغم محاولات الراحل جورج سعادة لتقويته
ومعالجة أزماته، يعاني الحزب اليوم انقساماً لم يشهد له
مثيلاً مع تولي كرم بقرادوني رئاسة الحزب وفصل الشيخ أمين
الجميل منه |
